Think About Your Eyes, an initiative aimed at increasing public education on eye health, announced that it will continue a national consumer campaign targeting the importance of eye exams with the help of an additional industry partner.

Gunnar Optiks, a company specializing in eye wear to protect eyes from computer vision syndrome, has joined National Vision Inc., Refac Optical Group, SpecialEyes, Walman Optical, Transitions, the Vision Council, Essilor and Luxottica in supporting the effort, according to a Think About Your Eyes press release.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this partnership, as we believe strongly in educating the public about the importance of maintaining eye health through an annual comprehensive eye exam,” Joe Croft, chief executive officer of Gunnar Optiks, said in the release. “Our team recognizes the need for healthy eyes, especially as people are spending even more time in front of digital screens.”

“Since the national launch of the campaign in July 2013, the website has seen more than 700,000 visits, with more than 80% of those visitors going to the doctor locator,” Ed Greene, chief executive officer of the Vision Council, said the release. “With results like these, it’s no surprise that we saw a 3.5% increase in overall eye exams in Q3 2013 alone. As consumer awareness increases, we encourage those eye care providers who haven’t already enrolled to join this initiative to ensure consumers can find them.”

Think About Your Eyes will continue educating via advertisements across several mediums, including social media, in February.
